PM Modi's rally not allowed in stadium in Meghalaya, says BJP

Meghalaya’s Sports Department has denied permission to BJP to hold Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally at PA Sangma Stadium. The PA Sangma Stadium is in South Tura, the constituency of the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Sangma. The Sports Department has denied permission citing construction work.

On the other hand, BJP has expressed displeasure over this. The BJP alleges that the ruling National People’s Party (NPP), along with the Trinamool Congress and other opposition parties, is trying to stop the BJP’s saffron wave in the state.

PM’s rally to be held on February 24

Voting is to be held in Meghalaya on 27 February. Earlier, PM Modi was going to campaign in Shillong and Tura on 24 February. District Election Officer Swapnil Tembe told that the Sports Department has said that the construction work is going on in the stadium, so it is not right to hold such a big gathering. Not only this, the department claims that construction related material has also been kept at the site. This can also be a security concern. In such a situation, it is being considered to hold a rally at Alotgre Cricket Stadium instead of PA Sangma Stadium.

The stadium was inaugurated 2 months ago

PA Sangma Stadium is built at a cost of Rs 127 crores. In this, 90% share has been allocated by the Center. This stadium was inaugurated by CM Sangma on 16 December. BJP’s National General Secretary Rituraj Sinha expressed surprise that how can a stadium be declared incomplete and unavailable for PM’s rally two months after its inauguration.

He asked, are Konrad and Mukul Sangma scared of BJP. They are trying to stop the BJP wave in Meghalaya. You can try and stop the PM’s rally but the people of the state have made up their mind to support the BJP. He said that the parties were shocked the way people reacted to the rallies of Home Minister Amit Shah and other BJP leaders. PM Modi will also do road in Shillong on 24th February.
