Freeing a soldier founded guilty for massacre dashes wishes for responsibility in Sri Lanka.

The grant of presidential pardon, on Thursday, to a Sri Lankan soldier on death row for killing eight Tamil villagers has triggered justified outrage amongst those who have been demanding justice from the state for past criminal offenses. Far from helping the cause of responsibility for war-time atrocities, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has gone the other method to nullify an unusual instance of justice being ensured by Sri Lanka’s judicial system.
