Sarabjot Singh missed out on reaching the finals, these shooters also disappointed

The performance of Indian shooters was not very good on the first day (27 July) of Paris Olympics 2024. Sarabjot Singh and Arjun Singh Cheema could not make it to the final of the men’s 10m air pistol. The top eight shooters got a place for the final match. Sarabjot finished ninth in the qualification with a total score of 577, while Arjun finished 18th with a score of 574.

This is how Sarabjot missed out on reaching the finals

Germany’s Robin Walter, who made it to the finals with an eighth place, also had a score of 577, but he hit 17 accurate shots as compared to Sarabjot’s 16. Sarabjot had reached the top three after scoring a perfect 100 in the fourth series, but the 22-year-old shooter failed to maintain the momentum and missed out on a place in the finals by a narrow margin.

Arjun Cheema also reached the fourth position at one point but he too could not maintain this momentum. Both Cheema and Sarabjot were part of the Indian team that won the 10 meter air pistol team gold medal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou last year.

Earlier, Indian shooters were eliminated in the 10m air rifle mixed team qualification stage. Two Indian pairs were participating in this event. Ramita Jindal and Arjun Babuta finished sixth with a total score of 628.7, while Elavenil Valarivan and Sandeep Singh finished 12th with a total score of 626.3. The pair of Ramita and Arjun had once raised hopes. This Indian pair was in fifth place with three shots remaining, but eventually fell 1.0 points behind the cut off for the medal round.

Arjun started off well in the second series and scored 10.5, 10.6, 10.5, 10.9. Ramita scored 10.2, 10.7, 10.3, 10.1 in the second series. This helped the pair reach the top eight, but this score was not enough to make it to the medal round. To reach the medal round, it was necessary to make it to the top four. The teams of China, Korea and Kazakhstan finished in the first three positions in the qualification round.
