A grand dinner was organized at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday night in honor of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor was invited to attend this dinner. He also attended the dinner. But no invitation was sent to Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge. Congress has also reacted to this.
Congress MPs had attended the dinner given in Putin’s honor at Rashtrapati Bhavan. A video of Tharoor is being shared on social media, in which he can be seen talking to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Both are smiling while talking.
But Congress has expressed displeasure over not sending invitation to Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge for dinner. Congress leader Pawan Kheda raised questions on inviting Tharoor to the dinner organized in Putin’s honour, saying that it is very surprising that the invitation was sent and the invitation was also accepted. Every person has a voice within himself. When my leader is not invited but I am called, then we should understand what game is going on, who is playing this game and why we should not be a part of this game.
Earlier, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor had said that he would attend the banquet organized in the honor of Russian President Vladimir Putin. He had said that he does not know on what basis the invitation is being given, but he will definitely go. It is not right that opposition leaders have not been invited.

Let us tell you that a day earlier, Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi had accused the Central Government and said that generally it is a tradition that whoever comes from outside, he meets the Leader of Opposition. This used to happen during the governments of Vajpayee ji and Manmohan Singh ji. But nowadays, when foreign guests or I go abroad, the Central Government advises them not to meet the Leader of Opposition.
These allegations of Rahul Gandhi were rejected by government sources as baseless. The government had told that Rahul Gandhi became the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha on June 9, 2024 and he has met four heads of state so far. These include the then Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina.
