Two Japanese giants Sony and Honda have come together and announced their new electric car brand Afeela at the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. These two brands will jointly manufacture electric cars, which will be available for sale in North America from the year 2026. Not much information has been shared about the new brand yet, but Sony Honda Mobility CEO Yasuhide Mizuno said that the car will be equipped with Artificial Intelligence (AI) as well as Sony’s advanced technology.
This electric car from the Afeela brand will have more than 40 sensors, including cameras, radar, ultrasonic and lidar, mounted on the exterior of the vehicle, which will greatly enhance its ability to detect surrounding objects and self-driving. According to Mizuno, Afeela’s electric car will be mainly based on three themes, which include autonomy, autonomy and intimacy.
The prototype model presented during this show looks very similar to the concept car that Sony displayed at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) three years ago. Though it is a sedan, it gets a light bar at the front, a closed grille and a high-gloss black roof. There is also a light accent on the black hubcaps and wheels. Quite a lot, the Afela prototype looks like a mashup between the Porsche 911 and the Lucid Air.

It is being told that the price of this new electric car can be at par with other premium cars like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Volvo and Audi. Sony has said it expects the company’s software to be offered with subscription services, so vehicle owners may have to pay a monthly fee to access certain features.
It may be noted that three years ago when Sony introduced its sleek concept sedan Vision-S at the Consumer Electronic Show (CES), the concept was discussed all around. Now both Sony and Honda are going to introduce electric cars under the Afeela brand, so it is obvious that companies like Tesla will also face difficulties. It is expected that Honda’s years of experience in the auto industry and Sony’s knowledge of technology will help in making this car even better.
