The Tamil Nadu government has “put on hold” works towards upgrading the National Population Register ( NPR) in the State, pending particular clarifications from the Centre.
The State federal government has sought information from the Centre over 3 particular concerns relating to the mother tongue, details of the parents and partner of the resident throughout enumeration.
” Since the clarifications sought for have not been gotten as yet, works on updating of the NPR have not started,” he said, and pointed out that the alert released in the State was only for carrying out Census and not for NPR.
