The terror of man-eating wolves is not stopping in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh. So far 10 people have lost their lives in wolf attacks. Forest department and administration teams are making continuous efforts to catch man-eating wolves, some have been caught, but their terror still continues. Late Thursday night, a wolf fatally attacked a 10-year-old child standing at the door of his house.

Sangam, 10 year old son of Kalal Yadav, resident of Golava Mauja Yadavpur of Dehat Kotwali area, was standing at the door of his house late on Thursday night. Then the wolf attacked him. The bloody claw of the man-eater hit the child’s face. The wolf’s nails caused deep wounds on the child’s cheek. He has been admitted to the district hospital for treatment. When the child screamed, the family members ran towards him, hearing the noise the wolf ran away from the spot, otherwise the child could have lost his life.

Meanwhile, Chief Forest Conservator Renu Singh reached Harbaksh Purva village of Bahraich on Thursday night and took stock of the operation being conducted to search for the wolf. Talking to the media, he said, ‘Search operation is going on to catch the wolves. We have caught four wolves so far. There are still two wolves left to catch. We have mapped the area where they are attacking children and divided them into three sectors. We are trying to track them using thermal drones.

Forest officials are patrolling sector-wise day and night in view of wolf attacks in 25-30 villages under Mahsi tehsil in Bahraich range. Sector in-charges have been instructed to prepare a strategy to protect against wolves. The forest department, police department and district administration have deployed forest guards for night patrolling in the affected areas, resulting in no incidents at night. Thermal drones are being used to locate the wolf and a search operation is being conducted on foot in the marshy area.

A command center has been created at the forest division level. Necessary instructions are being given to the teams working in Sector 1, 2 and 3 from here. A wolf was spotted in Pachdevari village of Sector 3 using thermal drone. Efforts are on to catch him. Besides, various administrative teams are running awareness campaigns. Police and forest department teams are jointly patrolling the villages and villagers have been advised to keep their children safe and keep the doors of their houses closed at night.
