Hormonal contraceptives: Women often consume birth control pills to prevent unwanted pregnancy. Many women consume these birth control pills without asking a doctor due to shame. Emergency pill or emergency contraceptive pill is used to avoid pregnancy after unprotected sex. It is also known as Morning-of Pills. Emergency is the best time to take pill, as soon as possible after unprotected sex. It is best to take these pills within 24 hours, but even by taking within 72 hours, pregnancy can be avoided.

Experts say that excessive consumption of emergency pills increases the risk of hormonal imbalance, irregular periods as well as ectopic pregnancy.

Recently a large Danish study has found that some hormonal birth control pills can increase the risk of stroke and heart attack. It was reported in the study that about 25 crore women worldwide use hormonal contraceptives.

What has been said in study

In the study, more than 2 million Danish women aged 15 to 49 were tracked for 25 years. Contraceptive pills included in the study included estrogen-professional pills, vaginal rings, patch, progestin-only pills, intrauterine devices (IUDs), implant and intramuscular injections under the skin.

The study found that …

– Estrogen/Progestin combination was increased to 2.4 times the risk of stroke in women taking birth control pills and 3.8 times the risk of heart attack.

– Progestin-only pills and implants also increase the risk, but less than combined pills.

– Vaginal rings and skin patches also increase the danger.

– Levonorgestral-reservoirin device (IUD) was the only contraceptive that was not associated with high risk regardless of the duration of use

In this study, researchers found that women should consume birth control pills. This study did not include women who have done blood clotting, cancer, liver disease, kidney disease, polycystic ovary syndrome, endometriosis or fertility treatment.
