Vajahat Khan, who filed a complaint against social media influencer and law student Sharmishtha Panoli, has been arrested by Kolkata Police. Wajahat is accused of inciting religious sentiments and spreading hatred. It is being told that he was absconding since June 1 and did not appear despite the police given a notice three times. After this, the police raided his house several times in the Garden Reich area and finally arrested him.
Accused of putting objectionable posts on social media
An FIR was lodged against Vajahat at Golf Green Police Station. It is alleged that he put such objectionable posts on social media, in which derogatory, inflammatory and pornographic language was used against Hinduism, deities and traditions. The organization called ‘Shri Ram Swabhimaan Parishad’ had also filed a formal complaint against Wajahat on 2 June.
Sharmistha Panoli was arrested from Gurugram on 30 May
Earlier, Sharmishtha Panoli was arrested by Kolkata Police from Gurugram on 30 May. He posted a video on social media, in which he expressed his displeasure over some Muslim Bollywood stars on ‘Operation Sindoor’. The language used in the video was described as communal and objectionable. After the arrest, Panauli deleted the video and also apologized.

On the other hand, Panoli has now been granted interim bail by the court. As per the conditions of bail, she cannot leave the country and had to deposit an amount of Rs 10,000 in the court. The court said that freedom of expression is not autocratic and it cannot be used to hurt one’s religious sentiments.
