Eleven people, including a six-year-old girl, passed away and over 350 were confessed to medical facilities after styrene monomer gas dripped from a chemical plant belonging to LG Polymers at RR Venkatapuram in Visakhapatnam on Thursday.
The gas reportedly spread over a radius of about 3 km, affecting at least five towns– RR Venkatapuram, Padmapuram, BC Nest, Gopalapatnam and Kamparapalem.
Case registered
The Gopalapatnam cops have signed up a case against the management of LG Polymers under Sections 278 (making atmosphere toxic to health), 284 (Negligent conduct with regard to dangerous compound), 285 (Negligent conduct with regard to fire or flammable matter), 337 (Triggering hurt by act endangering life or personal security of others), 338 (Triggering severe injured by act threatening life or personal security of others and 304 (II) of the IPC.
