Former India captain Sourav Ganguly reminisces about his friendship with ex-Odisha star cricketers

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly was effusive in his praise for emerging Team India star cricketers Nitish Reddy and Yashasvi Jaiswal. In an exclusive interview with OTV, the former southpaw drubbed medium pace all-rounder Reddy and left-handed opener Jaiswal as the future prospects of Team India.

Ganguly, popularly known as ‘Dada’ among the fans, also reminisced about his close friendship with former Odia star cricketers Debashish Mohanty and Shiv Sunder Das and expressed his love towards Odisha. Moreover, the former great praised the art, craft and Odissi dance of the State and the transformed state of Bhubaneswar.

“Bhubaneswar has been transformed a lot. The food in Odisha and the people in the State are so good. I came to Odisha first in 1986. I was 13 years old then. I had come to play U-15 cricket at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack then. We used to reside in a dormitory which is still there near the stadium,” said Ganguly.

“I have played cricket along with Odia cricketers like Debashish Mohanty and Shiv Sunder Das for a long time. Mohanty was once my roommate,” the former great added.

Reflecting on the ongoing fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Melbourne, Ganguly said that India would have been in a better position, had the lower order of Australia not fought hard in their second innings.

“India is an absolute power of the game and world cricket is in good health because of India,” said Ganguly.
