Legendary pacer Wasim Akram has expressed his wish for India and Pakistan to resume playing Test cricket. Speaking ahead of the Asia Cup 2025 where the two arch-rivals will face off in T20 internationals, Akram said red-ball cricket between the two nations would be a historic spectacle.

India and Pakistan last met in a Test series when Younis Khan’s side toured India, with Sourav Ganguly scoring over 500 runs and leading his team to a 1-0 victory in the three-match contest.

“Fans across the world cherish India-Pakistan clashes. My hope is that both countries revive Test cricket—it has been far too long, and such a series would be a memorable occasion,” Akram said in an interview.

Bilateral cricket ties between the two nations have been suspended since 2014 due to strained political relations. Tensions escalated further in 2025 after the Pahalgam terror attack, followed by India’s counter-operation, Sindoor.

However, the Indian government clarified in an official statement that it would not prevent athletes from competing against Pakistan in multilateral tournaments.
