Shubman Gill is currently going through the dream run of his life. He has a sensation start in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The promising cricketer has been India’s best batter in the ODI format this year. He has scored a hundred in the opening match against Bangladesh and 46 against Pakistan in Dubai.
In response, former South Africa great Hashim Amla feels that Gill is set to be the ‘next big thing’ in international cricket.
According to Amla, Gill, alongside Rishabh Pant and Ryan Rickelton, are set for superstardom in international cricket.
“For India, you have got Shubham Gill. Rishabh Pant has been around for a while. For South Africa, we have Ryan Rickelton who has done really well off late. Every country has about 2-3 cricketers who are going to come through and I think that’s pretty normal, that you see that every five years some youngster poke in the head through international cricket, and possibly be the next best, big thing,” said Amla during a recent interaction.

Amla also feels that the opening partnership of Gill along with captain Rohit Sharma is very potent and dangerous and having Kohli at No.3 makes India a dangerous side. He tipped India and South Africa to be favourites to win the Champions Trophy this year.
“India have obviously a very good chance, they have a fantastic team over the last 15-odd years. South Africa is also a very much balanced team and they have also a good chance of winning the mega event,” said Amla.
