Although Congress got bulk of seats in the Telangana election, Congress’s Mohammad Azharuddin lost to Bharat Rashtra Samithi’s Maganti Gopinath from Jubilee Hills by over 16,000 votes. The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) continued its grip on the Hyderabad area, winning 17 seats while its friendly celebration All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) kept all its 7 seats.
The Congress has actually wrested power from BRS by winning 64 seats in the 119-member Assembly. The BRS stood 2nd with 39 seats. The BJP and the AIMIM bagged 8 and 7 seats, respectively. The CPI won the staying seat.
