Meet Prolific Poet and Cystic Fibrosis Warrior Lauren Molasky Fierst

Writer and mom Fierst has been composing her collection of poetry all while fighting what’s been described as the “unnoticeable illness,” cystic fibrosis. While waiting for a double lung transplant, she turned the silly things her kiddos say and do into 65 poems, motivated by “65 roses,” the nickname for cystic fibrosis. Anjelika Temple: Let’s start with your roots.
Style and fashion will constantly be something I enjoy with all my heart and soul. LMF: My kids and my family are my entire world, they are what motivate me the most, to fight my battle versus CF as difficult as I battle it. I enjoy that I have actually had the opportunity to compose for the CF Structure and speak as their ambassador to raise cash for research and a treatment.
AT: Did you always know you wanted to be a writer? Inform me about the spark minute when you understood you might do this genuine.
LMF: I have believed in the previous about the possibility of composing a book one day however never knew what I wanted to write about. Once I began writing the poems for this book it felt like I couldn’t compose them fast enough. When I had my clothing line, I loved when I would finally see the completed product of a vision I had. With poetry, it’s cathartic to get my thoughts out on paper that form from a basic word or idea. Being able to develop a poetic story that makes my heart full is the best feeling, and if other people can associate with it or find comfort in it in any way, then it’s even much better.
AT: I enjoy your book The Sky Cracked Open. It sort of reminds me of my old Shel Silverstein books but with a lighthearted, warm tone to it. Tell me more about what influenced you to write this collection of poetry.
LMF: Thank you a lot! Shel Silverstein is a substantial inspiration and I have actually read all of his books to my kids because they were babies.
