The 2025 Volkswagen Golf will come to Australia in April with different prices to 2024, with reductions of as much as $500 as well as increases of up to $5500.
Revealed in Europe more than a year ago, the Mk8.5 Golf is finally due to arrive within two months, and the lineup is expanding from four to six grades.
As previously reported, the lineup will comprise the entry-level Golf Life, the new Style, the mid-range R-Line, the front-wheel drive GTI, the all-wheel drive R performance flagship, and an even more aggressive-looking R Black Edition.

The Golf remains available as a hatchback only in Australia, after the wagon was dropped in 2023.

Supplied Credit: CarExpert Prices start from $38,690 before on-road costs for the Golf Life, a $500 reduction on account of it losing a handful of features – satellite navigation, tri-zone climate control and ambient interior lighting – while gaining a larger 10.3-inch infotainment screen (up from 10 inches), and illuminated temperature and volume control sliders.
Buyers now have to step up to the $43,690 plus on-roads Golf Style to get satellite navigation, tri-zone climate control and 30-colour ambient lighting, which also comes with a 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen with voice assistant, a 14-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory, microfleece upholstery and LED Plus headlights.
Above it sits the Golf R-Line, which has incurred a $5500 price increase, now starting from $47,990 before on-road costs.
The R-Line has arguably gained the most in the update, with standard equipment including heated and ventilated front seats, power adjustment with memory for the driver, and Vienna leather.
Supplied Credit: CarExpert Volkswagen’s Golf GTI now gets 19-inch wheels as standard, while it’s received a 15kW power increase and now produces 195kW and 370Nm.
Its price has gone up by $2900 to $58,990 before on-road costs, making it the most expensive GTI-badged Golf ever in Australia.
The R is now the second-most expensive Golf, and has also benefited from an output increase – up 10kW and 20Nm – to now produce 245kW/420Nm, matching the Audi S3.
It’s priced from $70,990 before on-road costs, up $400.
Above it now sits the Golf R Black Edition, which for $1500 more adds black exterior and interior highlights.
