New Delhi: A five-judge constitution bench of the Supreme Court on Tuesday chose to proceed with the hearing of batch of petitions challenging 10 percent appointment for Economically Weaker Sections among the basic classification of population presented in 2019 while postponing, in the meantime, the adjudication of concern of religion-based booking rooted in 2005 choice of Andhra Pradesh federal government giving 4 percent booking to Muslims in universities and tasks in the state. The Central federal government brought 10 percent appointment for EWS of the population in basic classification in pursuance to 103 rd modifications of the constitution in the year2019 A five-judge constitution bench making up Chief Justice Uday Umesh Lalit, Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, Justice S. Ravindra Bhat, Justice Bela M. Trivedi and Justice J.B. Pardiwala, tentatively allocated five-days for the hearing of a batch of petitions challenging the EWS booking– 3 days in the week beginning with September 12 and 2 days in the week beginning September19 The court assigned 5 days for the hearing, as Attorney General K.K. Venugopal informed the court that he would need 3 hours to make his submissions and Solicitor General Tushar Mehta notifying the constitution bench that both the sides petitioners opposing 10 percent EWS appointment and the main federal government, states and others safeguarding the appointment would need 17.5 hours which bench settled to 18 hours. …
