A’ja Wilson Reaches Another WNBA Milestone One Year After Breaking Single-Season Scoring Record

The Las Vegas Aces may not be dominating the WNBA like they have in previous years, but A’ja Wilson continues to remind the league why she is the best in the world. The 29-year-old center achieved another major milestone in her career that has already seen multiple records set and broken.

This past Sunday (Aug. 10), the Aces defeated the Connecticut Sun, and Wilson recorded 32 points and 20 rebounds, marking the first time that has ever happened in the W. That was her 14th double-double of this season, 30th 30-point game of her career, and sixth career game with at least 30 points and 15 rebounds; that final stat allowed her to stand alongside Tina Charles for the most 30-15 games in league history. Additionally, Sunday evening was A’ja’s second career 20-rebound night.

“It’s just A’ja being A’ja,” Aces coach Becky Hammon said. “She probably could have had one of these in the past. I never let her really go to the offensive glass this year, where we’ve been emphasizing that more.” Wilson was elated after the game finished. “It’s huge,” she said of the unique milestone.

A’JA WILSON WAS UNSTOPPABLE TONIGHT.

“I didn’t even know, as many greats as we have in this league, it’s kind of a shocker that it’s just now happening. It’s a blessing. I love what I do. I love what I do. I love it so much, so anytime that I can come out and just play basketball the way that I love it, and the team, and we’re all getting involved — I’m happy with that.”

So, the three-time WNBA MVP can now proudly boast being a two-time WNBA Champion, one-time Finals MVP, seven-time All-Star, two-time Defensive Player Of The Year, one-time scoring champion, four-time blocks leader, the Aces’ all-time leader in points and rebounds, the WNBA’s all-time leader in 40-point games, the most consecutive games with 20 points, the most consecutive games with 20 points and eight rebounds, the most consecutive games with 25 points, the most points scored in the first 20 games of the regular season, the single-game leader in points with 53, and the single-season leader in points. All of this and she isn’t even 30 years old yet.
