HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (Nexstar Media Wire)– An Alabama medical professional is dealing with a reaction from the medical neighborhood for remarks he made this week in Washington, D.C. supporting the drug hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for COVID-19

Dr. David Calderwood, of Huntsville, spoke as part of a group of medical professionals who are calling themselves “America’s Frontline Doctors.” The family doctor of over 39 years told sibling station WHNT, “If you do it right, it works amazingly well.”

Various health research studies, in addition to federal and state health officials, have concluded that hydroxychloroquine is not a reliable treatment for COVID-19 which it possibly brings with it major health dangers if misprescribed.

Calderwood’s questionable remarks, in addition to those of the other physicians, went viral after President Trump retweeted them Monday. That video was later erased by Twitter and by other social networks platforms for consisting of misinformation.

In a second video published by the group, Calderwood urges Americans to tweet President Trump and demand hydroxychloroquine. Calderwood added, “Get it and you can save your life and lots of others.”
