Health insurance giant Bupa has admitted it misled thousands of customers about their entitlements for more than five years, leading some to forgo medical treatments and leaving others out of pocket by thousands of dollars. Bupa agreed to pay $35 million in penalties in response to ACCC. A senior public servant has been found to have committed corrupt conduct after she promoted her sister’s fiancé to a high-ranking position in Home Affairs in the first public investigation completed by the National Anti-Corruption Commission in its two years of operation. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says he will try to reduce US tariffs to zero. Australia is at risk of a $27 billion collapse in income from two of its biggest exports – liquefied gas and iron ore – as the US-China trade war chokes demand for commodities. Police have declared a critical incident after a former Greens candidate says she may lose vision in one of her eyes after an altercation between police and pro-Palestine activists in Sydney’s west. The jury in Erin Patterson’s triple murder trial has left the courtroom to begin its deliberations. The 50-year-old mother of two is accused of deliberately including death cap mushrooms in the beef Wellington lunch she served guests at her Leongatha home in regional Victoria on July 29, 2023. She has pleaded not-guilty.

‘Climate shelters’ created during deadly European heatwave Pensioners in Italy have been told to find shelter in museums and pools as the deadly heatwave continues to punish Europe.

In Venice, over 75s will be offered guided tours of museums and public buildings free of charge as authorities seek to keep pensioners out of the sweltering heat.

Seven “climate shelters” with air conditioning have also been established in Bologna, while ambulances have been placed on standby at tourist hotspots across southern Europe.

The initiatives were rolled out as extreme heat alerts were put in place across 21 Italian cities, including Naples, Venice, Rome, Florence and Milan.

The extreme heat is expected to last until the middle of week, with temperatures expected to rise further in France, Germany, Italy and the UK in the coming days.
