Badly burned victims dragged from fiery wreck after crash into tree at Rock Forest, near Bathurst

Two men are in a serious condition in hospital after a fiery crash on Ophir Rd at Rock Forest, near Bathurst, on Sunday.

A local man dragged the pair from the burning wreckage after their car crashed into a tree about midday.

The car “caught fire on impact, setting surrounding bushland alight,” NSW Police said.

The local, who lives on a neighbouring property, dragged the two men — aged 19 and 62— out and took them to a nearby home, where he gave them first aid.

They both suffered serious burns.

NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived and also treated the men, who were then taken to hospital.

The younger man was taken to Bathurst Airport and then airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital for further treatment.

The older man was airlifted straight from the crash site to Royal North Shore Hospital.

Both men are still believed to be in a serious condition, according to police.

“The scrub fire was extinguished by members of the local Rural Fire Service,” police said.

“The car was destroyed.”

Ophir Rd was closed to traffic but has since reopened, Live Traffic NSW said.

Investigations are ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
