All eyes are now on Super Tuesday after today’s results delivered a big victory for Joe Biden.
It was enough to see another candidate, this time billionaire Tom Steyer, drop out and leave others praying for big wins in a couple of days’ time.
Here are the five key takeaways.
1. Joe Biden is back
After disappointing performances in the first three races, the former vice-president claimed nearly 50 per cent of South Carolina’s popular vote, bringing his total delegate count up to a near-tie with frontrunner Bernie Sanders.
This was Biden’s first win of the primary race — and in his four-decades-long career as well. While in his third run for president, Biden has never actually won a presidential primary before.
“This is for all of those who’ve been counted out, knocked down,” he told supporters at his victory rally in Columbia, South Carolina.
