Brazil’s president signs up with anti-lockdown protests

Supporters of President Jair Bolsonaro turned out in Brasilia and other major cities on Sunday.

Mr Bolsonaro has clashed in recent weeks with state governors who have actually imposed lockdowns, knocking the measures as “dictatorial”.

As of Sunday, Brazil had more than 38,000 confirmed cases, the greatest number in Latin America.

President Bolsonaro attended to a crowd of a couple of hundred fans outside army head office in the capital, Brasilia, on Sunday.

He stated the protesters were “patriots” for defending individual flexibilities.
