Large flames, which engulfed a significant part of the popular Burleigh headland shortly after 9pm, were visible from across the Gold Coast.
Firefighters monitored the blaze until it burnt itself out when it ran out of fuel about 11.30pm.
Police are now investigating footage, reported by Seven News, showing a young person waving around a flaming branch before the fire started.
“The fire consumed most of the eastern and north-eastern side of Burleigh Headlands National Park before it burnt out of its own accord, under the supervision of emergency services,” police said in a statement.
“Police urge anyone with information or relevant footage to come forward.”
The popular walking track around the headland has been closed as firefighters assess the damage and police investigations continue.
