Good news for frustrated Canal Skateway fans!

After a couple of years of frustration, the weather seems to be lining up properly to get you back on your blades soon.

A deep freeze has settled in around the capital, with highs well below freezing expected for at least until next weekend.

Saturday is expected to hit a high of -10 C, with the wind making it feel like -20.

There are also possible flurries in the forecast, but no mention of major accumulation.

Sunday’s high is expected to be about -12 C with a 30 per cent chance of flurries. The mercury should plunge to -18 C under clear skies overnight.

Monday’s outlook is for a high of -10 C, with cloudy skies. The low is expected to be -15 C.

The NCC has said 10-14 consecutive cold weather days are required to create 30 centimetres of ice thickness.

There were only 10 skating days for the 2023-2024 season and the Skateway didn’t open at all the year before.
