DNA evidence from a discarded cigarette has actually led Florida police to apprehend a guy on suspicion of killing a lady 35 years earlier.

Daniel Wells, 57, was jailed and charged in Pensacola previously this week for the murder of Tonya McKinley.

Ms McKinley was discovered strangled and sexually attacked on New Year’s Day in 1985, leaving behind a child boy.

Her case has gone unsolved, but police state DNA from a public database linked Mr Wells to her murder in Pensacola.
