The Orange County Health Care Agency reported on Sunday, June 21, 434 new cases of coronavirus, but explained the spike in the daily count appears high because of a backlog in reporting.
The case total in Orange County rose to 10,422 in Sunday’s report.
The seven-day average number of new cases per day in the county is 273.
Of the 10,422 confirmed cases countywide, 1,047 were residents in skilled nursing facilities and 389 were Orange County Jail inmates.
There were 2 more deaths attributed to the coronavirus, pushing the total number of people who have died in the county to 269.
There have been 84 deaths in Orange County in the last 14 days, during which time case loads in intensive care units have also increased. But, according to the state’s coronavirus-tracking dashboard, Orange County has at least 42% of its ICU beds still available.
Of the reported deaths since the start of tracking the virus in O.C., 135 have been among residents of skilled nursing facilities.
The county has also started releasing an estimate for the number of recoveries from the virus, which was 4,953 as of Sunday’s report, up from 4,785 the day before.
