Democratic Senators Urge Congress To Focus On Handicapped People Amidst Outbreak

Sen. Elizabeth Warren(D-Mass.) and a group of her fellow Senate Democrats wrote to congressional management on Wednesday morning to encourage the addition of individuals with impairments in the next iteration of the coronavirus stimulus plan.

In their letter, the senators propose a $50 billion increase in financing for Medicaid House and Community-Based Solutions (HCBS) programs, paid authorized leave for people with impairments and their caretakers, an increase in Medicaid financing, and emergency situation income relief. They sent out the letter to Senate Majority and Minority Leaders Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), House Speaker Nancy Pelosi(D-Calif.) and Home Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.).
