Ellenbrook Secondary College stabbing sparked by abuse on social media, Perth children’s court told

A court has been told it was abusive comments on social media that led to a gang of teenage boys travelling across Perth before allegedly launching a stabbing attack against a student while he was still at school, plunging a college into lockdown.

Six teenagers aged between 13 and 16 have been charged after a student at Ellenbrook Secondary College, in the city’s northern suburbs, was allegedly stabbed just after 3pm on Monday.

The 15-year-old suffered an injury to his bicep and a cut to his head, but has been discharged from hospital.

It is alleged the boys, who were not students, stormed the school wearing hoodies and ski masks while armed with knives and an axe just after the final bell.

Three of the accused faced the Children’s Court in Perth on Tuesday and the remaining trio will appear at a later date.

The court was told they had travelled from south of the river seeking revenge over online abuse.

The incident prompted staff and students to shelter inside, with the school locked down for more than an hour.

The teens charged were not from the same school.
