How to Make Better Coffee in your home

Much of us are safeguarding in location, which most likely suggests forgoing that early morning journey to the coffee bar. Worry not though, it’s possible to make coffee house quality coffee in your own kitchen area.

Engineering a much better cup of coffee isn’t tough. First though, you need to figure out what “better” indicates to you. There is no single “right” cup of coffee, there’s simply the very best version of what you love. Do you love your coffee rich and dark– thick sufficient to stand a spoon in, as my grandpa used to state? Or do you prefer something brighter, more of a medium roast that doesn’t overwhelm you with bitterness? Or perhaps you choose a light coffee with some cream and sugar.

When you figure out what you like, then you can begin to enhance it until you hit on a house brewed cup of coffee you love more than anything the local coffee bar has to use. And make no mistake, I still invest my days at the cafe, working and taking pleasure in coffee I did not make. Or at least I did, and I wish to once again when this pandemic ends, but I also know that if coffee shops for some reason vanish from the world tomorrow, I can still take pleasure in a great cup of coffee at home.

The Daily Grind

When it comes to food, the much better your components, the much better your meals. The same is true of coffee. You have to start with excellent beans. That does not mean you need to spend a fortune on uncommon beans that have actually been crapped out by a civet (yes, that’s a thing), but it does indicate that this is the place to begin if you wish to brew a better cup in your home.

I’ll begin with the most apparent upgrade: absolutely nothing will enhance your coffee experience more than changing from pre-ground coffee to entire bean coffee you grind yourself shortly before making it.

The taste (and caffeine increase) of coffee comes from the oils inside the bean. Once that bean is ground up those oils start to break down. Ground coffee typically has a life span of less than a week. The ground coffee you see in the grocery store will have been on the shelf far longer than that. This is why I recommend you purchase entire bean coffee and grind it yourself.

I know what you’re believing: that’s a discomfort. But it’s actually not. Excellent coffee grinders make it totally painless and fast.
