Humana will leave the business medical insurance market and focus its efforts on government-sponsored items such as Medicare Advantage, the business revealed Thursday.
The insurance company will phase out its totally guaranteed, self-funded and Federal Employees Health Benefits Program strategies, in addition to its health and benefits offerings, over the next 24 months, according to a press release. This line of work created more than $4 billion in 2015, or less than 0.05% of the business’s earnings, a Humana representative composed in an e-mail.
Humana does not anticipate the choice to impact monetary efficiency this year. The insurance company will continue to serve the Medicare Advantage, Medicare Part D, Medicare supplement, Medicaid and TRICARE markets and maintain its oral, vision and life insurance coverage items.
“It hasn’t been a focus for the business for rather some. They are concentrated on Medicare Advantage. This is the supreme evidence of that, with them stating ‘Let’s simply go all in on MA,'” stated Brad Ellis, senior director of medical insurance at Fitch Ratings credit firm.
