India wants to remove 20 tankers from Hormuz Strait, ongoing talks with Iran

Countries around the world are going through energy crisis due to the ongoing war in the Middle East. Due to closure of Hormuz Strait by Iran, oil supply has come to a standstill on a large scale. The new Supreme Leader of Iran has also made it clear that no ship will pass through Hormuz. Amidst all this, a Bloomberg report has claimed that talks have taken place between the Indian government and Iran, so that more than 20 oil and gas tankers stranded in the Strait of Hormuz can get safe passage.

According to the report, these tankers are filled with liquefied petroleum gas, liquefied natural gas and crude oil. When America and Israel attacked Iran last month, these tankers got stuck in the Strait of Hormuz.

The Strait of Hormuz is a sea route through which about 20 percent of the world’s crude oil passes. It connects the Persian Gulf to Oman. Shipping has been affected due to the current war. Ships using this waterway are being attacked by Iran.

According to the report, India’s Foreign Ministry is in talks with Iran to provide safe passage to these tankers. Even before this, information had come that Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and India’s Foreign Minister S. There was a discussion on this issue between Jaishankar.

During a press conference on Thursday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that talks have taken place three times between India and Iran since the war started. Jaiswal confirmed that talks had taken place between the two leaders. However, he did not share much information on this topic. Earlier through social media S. Jaishankar had told that he is in touch with his Iranian counterpart and will remain in touch in future also.

Amidst all this, Energy Minister Hardeep Singh Puri told in the Parliament that there is no shortage of fuel in the country. He said that the world has never seen such a situation before, but India’s crude oil supply is completely safe.

He told that before the war started, about 45 percent of India’s crude oil was imported through the Strait of Hormuz. However, after the war started, India made agreements with other countries for oil supply. There has been an increase of about 15 percent in the purchase of crude oil from non-Hormuz Strait countries.

Hardeep Singh Puri said that the country’s oil refineries are working at full capacity. He said that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel, kerosene, aviation turbine fuel and other petroleum products in the country.
