According to reports, the procedure was “long-planned” and was performed at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C. Vance’s spokesperson, William Martin, confirmed that Vance would be back at work the following day.
This medical procedure comes just weeks before Vance’s scheduled inauguration as vice president on January 20, alongside President-elect Donald Trump.
At 40, Vance is set to become the youngest vice president since Richard Nixon, who assumed the role in 1953 at the same age.

Earlier on the day of his surgery, Vance attended the Senate to witness the swearing-in of new Republican senators Bernie Moreno of Ohio and Dave McCormick of Pennsylvania. He expressed his support on social media, stating, “I was proud to stand with [Sen. Bernie Moreno] and [Dave McCormick] as they were sworn in to the US Senate. Congrats to them and to all of our new senators!”
Currently, Vance is a senator from Ohio, and he has not announced his resignation date from the Senate. After his resignation, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine will appoint a temporary replacement.
