The state of Minnesota has filed a human rights complaint against the Minneapolis Police Department over the death of George Floyd.
Protests are also building in Washington DC, and an early curfew in New York has been extended for the rest of the week.

Things are calm in DC at the moment
The ABC’s North America correspondent Kathryn Diss is near the protests at the White House and she said things are calm right now, but there is a heavy police presence.
The approach at the moment has been calm but there is a heavy police presence on the streets. So on our walk up to the White House today we saw a number of the streets blocked off with members of the military, the National Guard, stationed at different, you know, corners to be able to block protesters from moving into different areas of the city. We’re hearing that they are now also stationed outside the Lincoln Memorial and also outside the Capitol building to try and defend those landmarks from any sort of protest activity. But at the moment, we’re not seeing any sort of heavy-handedness from police.

Less than twenty minutes until curfew in DC
From everything I’m seeing, the crowd of protesters near the White House today is absolutely huge. Our correspondents on the ground say that the numbers are vastly larger than they were at the same time yesterday. It’s also not the only protest happening in the area.
The protests are peaceful.

Joe Biden hits out at Trump
Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden made a rare campaign appearance today to respond to US President Donald Trump’s handling of the unrest across the United States.
Biden said the killing of George Floyd was a “wake-up call” and accused Mr Trump of turning America into a “battlefield riven by old resentments and fresh fears”.
“Is this who we want to be? Is this what we want to pass on to our children and grandchildren? Fear, anger, finger-pointing, rather than the pursuit of happiness? Incompetence and anxiety, self-absorption, selfishness?” Biden said.

An inside look at the clashes near the White House
One of yesterday’s flashpoints came when police and the National Guard suddenly marched on largely peaceful protesters near Lafayette Square in Washington DC , across the road from the White House.
They fired tear gas and stun grenades. There was still 25 minutes to go until a city-wide curfew was in effect.
