Desperately seeking Bridget

Dan you’re back! The burning question we’ve all been wanting an answer for: when will our beloved Bridget be back on the blog? Seriously, it’s great to have the blog back. ABC has done an excellent job in all the disasters this year. You have been our go to, trusted news source. You have kept us informed with evidence-based scientific advice (thanks Norman and Tegan) and kept us sane and informed with just the right mix of gravity and humour (huge thanks to all the blog team). Keep up the good work!

Queenslanders urged to strictly follow quarantine rules

Here’s QLD Attorney-General Yvette D’Ath:

What we’ve seen out of Victoria is the absolute need for Queenslanders to be complying with quarantine orders. Although we are so fortunate in Queensland to have so few active cases, the fact is as of today we have almost 3,000 people in people on quarantine orders. About 880 of those people are in hotels but over 2,000 are quarantining in their homes. It is absolutely critical that those people remain at home for the 14 days that they are quarantining, that they are not allowing people into their homes and they are not leaving their homes for any reason other than to be tested for COVID. The reason why this is critical is that these people are in regions right across Queensland. And this can be the difference between whether we can contain COVID going forward or not. The majority of positive cases of COVID in Queensland are people who were in quarantine at some point. So we’re calling on all Queenslanders that if you are required to go into quarantine that you comply with these orders.

Update from the NT

Here’s Norther Territory Chief Minister Michael Gunner:

“A lot of concern from what is happening in Victoria right now. I want to remind Territorians, this is why we waited. We built in a four-week buffer, four replication cycles of the virus to be absolutely sure that this transition can be done properly. We have landed eradication. We did better than expected and we have eradicated Corona. This brings new challenging and expectation. We have been a fortress in the Territory, the safest in the nation, and I acknowledge that being the safest makes the next step scarier.”

Mr Gunner says the Territory will continue its plan to open state borders from July 17, but will not be allowing visitors from the current hotspots.

“From the 17 July, this will continue with one change: Statutory declaration. In addition with the current information you will be required to declare if you been or travelled through a hotspot in the last 28 days. It is pretty clear to everyone by now that when you don’t follow the quarantine rules, the police find you and fine you.”
