Still, it was clear that he dealt with challenges to achieving the 217 votes on the flooring required to protect the post. “I simply showed my coworkers that I’m withdrawing my name as a prospect for the speaker designee,” Scalise stated to press reporters late Thursday, according to ABC News. “Our conference still needs to come together and it’s not there. There are still some individuals that have their own programs. And I was extremely clear we need to have everyone put their programs on the side and concentrate on what this nation requires,” Scalise stated, according to a report in The Hill.
