While there has been no direct impact, the ripple effects are being felt across the hotel industry, particularly among street food vendors. Small traders operating roadside breakfast and fast-food stalls are facing increasing difficulty in sustaining their businesses.
Rising input costs have led to a hike in food prices. Items that were earlier priced at Rs 5 per piece are now being sold at Rs 7 or more in some areas, which is affecting both vendors and consumers due to a potential decline in footfall.
A resident from Balasore said, “Earlier, we could get breakfast for Rs 20. Now, the price has gone up. I am managing to eat within Rs 20 by skipping curry, otherwise it would have affected me.”
