A North West court on Wednesday sentenced a 39-year-old guy to 15 years behind bars for a series of criminal offenses, consisting of tried murder. The Bafokeng magistrate’s court slapped Mpho Makatise with a 10-year jail term for tried murder, another 10 years for theft and 5 years for trying to avert justice. The court purchased the sentences of tried murder and theft to run simultaneously. His conviction and sentence come from a May 2021 occurrence at the Impala Platinum Mine in Rustenburg where Makatise and 6 accomplices went to take copper cable televisions, stated National Prosecuting Authority representative Henry Mamothame. “They were identified by security workers [resulting in] one security personnel being shot 5 times by the suspects. He was required to a close-by health center. “Reports expose that the guard invested 6 months in medical facility and has actually not completely recuperated as he continues to get treatment for the injuries he sustained. 6 of the suspects are yet to be jailed, as they handled to get away the criminal activity scene.” District Attorney Zola Mphayipheli, in irritation of sentence, advised the court not to be lax to the implicated as he did not have regret. He even more argued that copper cable television theft was swarming and among the offenses that was debilitating the economy. “The magistrate concurred with the state as she enforced a 15-year direct jail time on the implicated,” Mphayipheli stated.
