The researchers revealed issues over a prominent study from The Lancet, which surveyed 96,000 hospitalized COVID-19 patients across six continents and concluded that the drug was ineffective in combating the coronavirus and caused severe heart problems and even death for clients who had the illness.

An open letter from more than 180 researchers worldwide raised issues over what they said was irregular data in the report, noting that the typical everyday dosages of hydroxychloroquine were greater than the those recommended by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

They also pointed out that information the magazine stated was from Australian patients did not seem to match information from the Australian federal government, among other things.

Another significant issue was that the research study’s authors did not release their code or information regardless of signing a promise to share details on the coronavirus.
