Microsoft bans face-recognition sales to police as Huge Tech responds to demonstrations

( Reuters) – Microsoft Corp ( MSFT.O) stated on Thursday it would await federal guideline before selling facial acknowledgment innovation to police, making it the most recent big company to retreat from business following protests versus police brutality and predisposition.

The announcement came shortly after competing Amazon.com Inc ( AMZN.O) declared it was stopping briefly authorities usage of its “Rekognition” service for a year and International Service Machines Corp ( IBM.N) stated it no longer uses the software usually.

In a declaration, Microsoft said it has worked on enacting principles and legislation for the software’s use.

” We do not offer our facial acknowledgment technology to U.S. police departments today, and until there is a strong national law grounded in human rights, we will not offer this innovation to police,” the company said. The Washington Post first reported the news.
