Blinking lights showed up in Melbourne’s cloudy night sky on Saturday night, leaving numerous scratching their heads over the source. The spooky sight was really morse code, beaming up from The Substation in Newport as part of a light setup from artist Michaela Gleave and lighting designer Fausto Brusamolino called ‘Between United States’. Words gathered from the neighborhood were equated into morse code for the task and beamed skyward from the Melbourne-based gallery on Saturday night, along with from Footscray Community Arts Centre.
