Nurses and other healthcare employees open about ‘fear’ of capturing coronavirus at work

Nurses and other healthcare employees open about ‘fear’ of capturing coronavirus at work

A week and a half ago 32- year-old Emily Morris saw some unusual hurting in her lower legs.

Bottom line:

  • More than 700 health care employees have checked positive for COVID-19 in Victoria
  • Lots of health care workers feel a sense of embarassment when they contract COVID-19
  • Healthcare employees are pleading with the public to listen to health warnings

As an emergency situation department nurse at The Royal Melbourne Medical Facility, she was used to being on her feet throughout the day, but this was different.

She right away spoke to her supervisor.

” I was removed the flooring, checked and then self-isolated up until I got my result, which was around 24 hours later on, which said that I was COVID favorable,” Ms Morris informed 7.30

” I was definitely devastated.

” I believe that, as a health care employee, there is a little bit of embarassment and preconception around being identified as COVID favorable.”

Her close contacts were recognized and isolated, and Ms Morris is now separating in a government apartment or condo while monitoring her symptoms, so she does not put her housemates at risk.

” I feel dreadful. I haven’t felt like consuming and have difficulty keeping down fluids,” she said.

” I have certainly been knocked around in a way that I didn’t necessarily believe that I would, especially being such a young and healthy person.”
