The NYPD on Sunday rapidly suspended an officer caught on cellular phone video using a chokehold on a Black man thought of bothering beachgoers.
” Responsibility in policing is important,” Commissioner Dermot Shea tweeted “After a swift examination by the Internal Affairs Bureau, a law enforcement officer associated with a troubling apparent chokehold event in Queens has been suspended without pay. … While a full investigation is still in progress, there is no concern in my mind that this immediate action is necessary“
The man seen in the video, Ricky Bellevue, passed out in the chokehold, and was dealt with at a health center for a bloody scalp and swollen wrists, his attorney Lori Zeno told The New York City Times.
The onlooker video reveals officers trying to restrain Bellevue on the boardwalk at Rockaway Beach in Queens on Sunday early morning. A fellow officer taps the cop and pulls on his shirt, triggering him to launch his grip.
