PAHO Director Concludes Visit to Jamaica

Kingston, 9 May 2024 (PAHO) – The Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Dr. Jarbas Barbosa, concluded a check out to Jamaica today marked by a series of engagements with senior federal government authorities and global partners. The PAHO Director likewise participated in the removal of mother-to-child transmission of HIV and syphilis (EMTCT) accreditation event for Jamaica, Belize, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, along with the accreditation event of a baby-friendly medical facility.

Throughout the EMTCT event, the Director praised all 3 nations for the general public health turning point, keeping in mind that “this accomplishment is a testimony to years of devotion, effort, and partnership amongst federal governments, health experts, and neighborhoods.” He revealed hope that the event would motivate other nations to revitalize their dedications towards a generation devoid of HIV and genetic syphilis. Putting an end to mom to kid transmission of HIV and syphilis is among the goals of PAHO’s Disease Elimination Initiative.
