Dr. Vincent C.C. Cheng, from the Department of Microbiology at Queen Mary Health Center, in Hong Kong, is the lead author of the new research study.

Dr. Cheng and the team inventoried the infection control steps executed by the Hong Kong Medical Facility Authority, “a governing body of all 43 public healthcare facilities, responsible for 90%of inpatient service in Hong Kong” instantly after the COVID-19 break out in Wuhan, mainland China.

The findings suggest that basic infection control practices are effective if diligently used.

The scientists also analyzed the public health of the validated cases that these health centers dealt with, along with collecting and examining environmental and air samples to see how much the infection had actually spread out in the environment.

The scientists released their findings in Infection Control & Health Center Public Health, the journal of The Society for Healthcare Public Health of America.

Dr. Cheng and coworkers started their estimations with “day 1”– December 31, 2019, the day when a cluster of pneumonia cases was revealed in Wuhan, China.

The goal of the research study was to examine the preparedness for COVID-19 in the following 42 days, or 6 weeks.

Throughout this time, the 43 health centers consisted of in the analysis evaluated 1,275 thought cases of COVID-19 and treated 42 validated cases– that is, 3.3%of the suspected cases.

An overall of 413 healthcare employees treated the confirmed cases. Eleven of these workers had vulnerable direct exposure to SARS-CoV-2 and were for that reason quarantined for 14 days.

None of the quarantined staff members contracted the infection, report the scientists. Moreover, no healthcare facility acquired infections happened after 6 weeks.
