Ray Martin awards Ally Langdon and Australian Story in the big journo categories By Meg Watson Legendary journalist Ray Martin is honoured with a brand-new award named after him, the Ray Martin Award for Most Popular News or Public Affairs Presenter. “I must confess that I thought the editors of TV Week thought I was dead,” the 80-year-old said on stage.
And while there were plenty of jokes about his age, both in the opening monologue and again here, it was a decidedly earnest moment as we look to some big journalism categories.

“I’ve never seen journalists under such siege as they are at the moment,” Martin said. “Journalists are being beaten up and killed around the world.”
It was fitting that the inaugural recipient of the award went to another A Current Affair host, Ally Langdon (who is also up for the Gold Logie).
“To this incredible man right here, you’re the reason a lot of us got into [this industry],” she said. “Thank you so much for being our guiding light.”
