Tony Abbott is among several prominent people acknowledged in the Queen’s Birthday honours this year.

The previous prime minister was made a Companion of the Order of Australia (Air Conditioner) for “distinguished service to the people and Parliament of Australia”.
The honour was mainly for his function as Prime Minister, along with significant contributions to trade, border control, and to the Indigenous neighborhood.
Mr Abbott was one of three people to be called an Air Conditioner, in addition to University of Sydney chancellor Belinda Hutchinson for distinguished service to service, tertiary education and clinical research study, and businesswoman Naomi Milgrom, for her service to the neighborhood through philanthropic leadership.
All those recognised in the Queen’s Birthday honours are nominated by fellow Australians before they are evaluated by an independent body, the Council of the Order of Australia, before being given out by the Governor-General.
The Queen has no direct involvement at the same time.
