President Trump, pictured with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, has not yet determined a white supremacist group as a terrorist organisation.
The statement marks the very first time the United States federal government has used the label to a white supremacist group.
To receive such a designation, a group should be a foreign organisation and should engage in terrorist activity that threatens the security of United States nationals or the nationwide security of the United States.
The Treasury Department can block any American properties belonging to a called terrorist group, and its members can be avoided from entering the US.
