” Upon details and belief, Iran or its proxies are preparing a sneak attack on U.S. troops and/or properties in Iraq. If this occurs, Iran will pay an extremely heavy price, undoubtedly!” Trump stated in a post on Twitter.
It was not immediately clear what information Trump was describing in his tweet, which was posted after he was set up to have a 12 p.m. ET (1600 GMT) intelligence instruction.
U.S. intelligence about a possible Iran-backed strike in Iraq recommends it would likely be a deniable attack, as opposed to the kind of overt rocket strike that Tehran carried out on Jan. 8, a U.S. authorities informed Reuters on condition of privacy.
