U.S. airline companies begin cutting flights due to UK, Ireland restrictions

WASHINGTON/CHICAGO (Reuters) – United Airlines Co stated late Saturday it would begin cutting flights to the United Kingdom after Washington broadened travel constraints to Britain and Ireland, and Southwest Airlines moved toward flight cuts as the coronavirus break out sapped need.

Delta Airlines Inc likewise said it prepared to start cutting flights to the UK.

Southwest, one of the few U.S. airline companies still flying a complete schedule, stated it was “seriously thinking about” cutting flights.

While airlines rushed to stem losses and protect jobs, U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin stated the government would “immediately” start dealing with Congress to support the airline and cruise industries, both hard struck by the spiraling crisis.
